Järvenpää is familiar with classical painting techniques, taking advantage of this in today's modern expression. The subjects in his paintings vary along change in life: cartoons as a young boy, beginning paintings in his twenties. First subjects were of the nature and sea, which had become familiar to Matti also with work. Later came animal subjects, other nature environments and surrounding as well as his now known female figures in oil.
